Supercell made $810 million profit in 2017

Mobile gaming publisher Supercell announced that they have completed the past year with $2 billion in revenue and $810 million in profit, without releasing any new game.

Helsinki-based Supercell, which was founded seven years ago and has so far released four games, have succeeded in becoming one of the biggest players in the mobile game market with only a few productions. Revenue in 2017, when the company has not released any games, was announced at $2.02 billion, while profit was $810 million.

Supercell notes that the financial performance of 2017 has fallen compared to the previous year. The company announced a profit of $1 billion and income of $2.3 billion in 2016.

2017 was a good year for them, CEO Ilkka Paananen noted that Clash Royale has become one of the biggest e-sports events of the world with 27.4 million players and mentioned their new game Brawl Stars is in beta stage.

In 2017, Supercell paid $615 million as profit shares to the roofing company Tencent . The Chinese Internet and gaming giant, by establishing a consortium in 2016, bought Supercell’s majority stake in the valuation of $10.2 billion. In the first year of the acquisition, Supercell paid $1 billion in profits to the giant company.

Supercell, with 241 employees, is relatively small and invests in other developers. The company has invested in the studios of Space Ape Games (London), Frogmond (Helsinki) and Shipyard Games (Helsinki) for the past year. They have already invested $4.2 million in Trailmix this year.

Supercell, founded in 2010 with the support of $6 million from Finland, paid $140 million back to the country in 2017.
